ANPR using existing CCTV: read and log number plates at your gate
At a gate or lane with the right camera view, Eye AI can read number plates and log them with the vehicle. You get a plate log with snapshots, a match against your own allow-list, and entry and exit by plate. We survey your site first. Plate reading depends heavily on camera angle, light and distance, so we switch it on only once it is shown to work at your gate.
ILLUSTRATION WITH SAMPLE DATA
The problem
Gate staff write plates by hand, or not at all, and records have gaps.
Checking whether a vehicle is allowed means radioing someone or looking it up.
After an incident, finding which vehicle was there means scrubbing through recordings.
How it works
- Site survey. We review the camera, the angle, the lighting and the distance at each gate or lane. Not every camera view suits plate reading, and we tell you plainly.
- Set up the lane. For suitable views we mark the lane and, if you wish, load your allow-list.
- Verify before enabling.Plate reading is not turned on until it is checked at your site and found to work there.
- Use the log.Plates appear on your password-protected dashboard with a snapshot and the time. Allow-list matches are marked.
What you get
- A plate log with a snapshot of each vehicle.
- Matching against your allow-list.
- Entry and exit records by plate.
- Searchable history and CSV export.
- Vehicle type and colour estimates alongside each plate.
Honest limits
- This analytic is in beta and a site survey is required. We publish no accuracy figure until we have measured it with stated conditions.
- Camera angle, light and distance decide the result. A camera that was installed to give a wide overview often cannot read plates.
- Plate reading is weaker at night, in glare and in headlight beam. We make no night-time promise. Whether it works after dark at your gate is something the survey and verification show.
- Dirty, damaged or unusual plates, and fast-moving vehicles, can be misread or missed.
- Local plate formats vary. We confirm that your plate style is read correctly at your site as part of verification Tell us the plate format and language you need and we build and tune for it.
- Plate data is personal data in many places. We set out retention and access with you and keep it on your own computer.
Questions about number plates (anpr)
Can ANPR run on my existing cameras?
Sometimes. It depends on whether a camera has the right angle, light and distance at the gate. The survey answers this.
Does it work at night?
We do not promise it. It is weaker at night and in glare. Survey and verification at your site show what is realistic.
Why do you survey first?
Because the same software gives very different results on different views. We would rather tell you "not with this camera" before you spend money.
Can it match plates to an allow-list?
Yes. Entries can be compared against a list you provide.
Where is plate data stored?
On a computer at your site. Video is analysed there and the dashboard sits on your network.
